Future Call of Duty titles given expanded three year development cycle.
Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg discussed the game's development during the publisher's Q4 calender 13 results call this evening, revealing that future Call of Duty titles had also been given expanded three-year development cycles.
Call of Duty titles have previously worked to two-year development cycles.
While Sledgehammer's game has yet to be formally revealed it is strongly expected to be a new title in the Modern Warfare franchise.
The extended cycle also means that Treyarch's next Call of Duty, believed to be Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, likely...

Jae Lee writes: My history with competitive FPS games is quite lengthy, starting all the way back in the days of Counter Strike 1.6. Since then, Ive jumped from game to game, like Battlefield 2 and Modern Warfare 1.
However, I hit a certain point where the new FPS games I was playing all felt like simple re-releases of their respective predecessors, and the genre lost its appeal to me.
I dont think Im alone in thinking that titles like Battlefield, Call of Duty and even Counter Strike feel like they just continuously tread on proven grounds time and time again.
While many are hopeful Titanfall will be the title to answer their prayers for a new brand of FPS, a little known title called Insurgency makes its debut as a standalone release to challenge what we expect from the genre.

| Seven Breathtaking Fully-Orchestrated Video Game Soundtracks

UM writes: Video game soundtracks have come a long way since the Atari days. Back then, beeps and boops were all you had. Some games made do with these limitations and excelled, but others produced auditory abominations that demanded muting.
Now, though, thanks to advances in storage media, games with a big enough budget can produce soundtracks that are on par with Hollywood film scores. Video games as well as their music have really begun to come into their own within our culture. Hans Zimmer even assisted with the Modern Warfare 2 soundtrack, if that tells you anything. Going the extra mile and arranging a full, live orchestra to perform and record your game soundtrack/score instead of using samples really bumps up the production values and atmosphere. Some games have such quality orchestral soundtracks that they demand recognition by virtue of that alone.

Same old, same old.
Worst because although there's slight historical precedent for his inclusion – previous games had an unofficial 'Michael Myers', or zombie gametype – it just seems desperate.
Still, it's popular: more so than the other options, which all feel like photocopies of other, older entries. One – Ignition – actually is a like-for-like recreation of Modern Warfare 2's Scrapyard. Not much has changed, and on the whole this is the same thing you loved or hated back in 2009.

Dome remake coming in next map pack, alleged leak suggests.
Reddit user osirisgreen claims to have been able to see the maps earlier today after installing Ghosts' Onslaught pack on their Xbox One, with the maps allegedly being referenced in the game's Bonus Maps section.
The four names include Battery, Red River, Rumble and Dome, suggesting a remake of Modern Warfare 3's Dome map could be on the way.
A mistake on the Xbox Games Store also backs up osiris green's claim. Rather than featuring the official Onslaught name, the pack was labelled as 'Call of Duty: Ghosts MAP02' on the Xbox One Games Store earlier today, suggesting...
